Bible Verse of the Day for Wednesday

“When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.  And He said to them, ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.  For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.’  After taking the cup, He gave thanks and said, ‘Tae this and divide it among you.  For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes.’  And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’  In the same way after the supper He took the cup saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.  But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine at the table…”

Bible Verse of the Day for Tuesday

“Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called Passover, was approaching, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.  Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.  And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.  They were delighted and agreed to give him money.  He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.  Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.  Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, ‘Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.’

“’Where do you want us to prepare for it?’ they asked.  He replied, ‘As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you.  Follow him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’  he will show you a large upper room, all furnished.  Make preparations there.’

“They left and found things just as Jesus had told them.  So they prepared the Passover.”

Weekend Update

As the weekend is here, I wanted to check in on the New Year Challenge as well as update you on a few things….

In this post on January 1st, I challenged each of you to read the Bible in 90 Days – just 12 pages a day; if you took the challenge and stuck with it, you should be almost finished!  With the Kindle version just $5.99 (and most of the readers of this blog are reading it on their Kindle) the price is right!

I took my own challenge and, sad to say, I am a couple of weeks behind.  I am still plugging away, and it will be more like the “Bible in 120 Days” vs. the 90 days.

Many of you know while Amazon does pay me a small commission for each person (all of 35 cents per subscriber, per month) who subscribes to this blog via their Kindle, I do not keep any of the money but donate 100% of it to the Nehemiah Center of Houston.  The Nehemiah Center is a Christian-based organization that offers academic, emotional, cultural, social and spiritual enrichment to the children and families in the MacGregor Elementary School Area just outside Houston’s Third Ward.  Their mission is neighbors helping neighbors create a safe haven in which children are motivated, inspired and equipped to realize their God-given potential.   The Nehemiah Center opened with 22 children in January 1996 and now serves over 130 children daily.  They are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, and if you would like to donate (go to http://www.nehemiahcenterhouston.org to learn more) your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law; corporate gift matching is welcomed.  Thanks to your subscription, collectively we have been able to donate a little more than $270.00 to this great organization – thank you!

Many of you know I also publish the Free Kindle Books Plus a few Other Tips blog.  From time-to-time I will also send notifications of free religious books to the members of the Bible Verse of the Day blog; I will try to keep that at a minimum, although lately there have been a lot of free religious books, in order not to lose the focus of this blog: simply a verse or several verses from the Bible.  I do not put any commentary or my own individual thoughts with the Bible Verse of the Day as I would rather you reflect on it vs. some fat, gray-headed guy from Houston (i.e., me) telling you what it means.  Besides, you and I could read the same verse and come up with several different interpretations!

I have also taken over three other Kindle blogs from my cousin – he will continue to run the Joke of the Day blog, which is for more mature audiences – but if you are interested in other content I am publishing, just click on one of the links below.

Trivia of the Day – this is mainly a once-a-day blog with random trivia and facts, designed to give you a “leg-up” on your friends, relatives, and co-workers.

Quote of the Day – This is also a once-a-day blog features inspiring quotes from famous and everyday people to start your day.  They are sometimes wise, sometimes humorous, and some may make you scratch your head and say “huh,” but you’re sure to find something that will inspire you in your walk of life.

On This Day in History – Not just limited to USA-specific content, have you ever wonder what happened on a particular day, such as historical events, birthdays, deaths, worldwide holidays, etc.? This blog tries to tell you with a fresh post every morning.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Michael

“What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.”

Bible Verse of the Day for Saturday

“For I have a great sense of obligation to people in our culture and to people in other cultures, to the educated and uneducated alike.  So I am eager to come to you in Rome, too, to preach God’s Good News.  For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes–Jews first and also Gentiles.
